REM/Rate™ is a user-friendly, sophisticated, residential energy analysis, code compliance and Home Energy Rating (HERS®) software developed specifically for the needs of HERS® Providers and Home Energy Raters.

REM/Rate™ software calculates heating, cooling, hot water, lighting, and appliance energy loads, consumption and costs for new and existing single and multi-family homes. Climate data is available for cities and towns throughout the U.S. and Canada. As a home energy rating tool, REM/Rate™ meets the following requirements:

  • Complies with RESNET® National Home Energy Rating Standards as promulgated by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET®), including an hourly HERS simulation engine option.
  • Calculates energy loads, consumption and costs as well as sizes mechanical equipment and performs automatic International Energy Conservation Code compliance analysis.

In addition to energy rating, REM/Rate™ creates the following value-added information:

  • U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR® Certified Homes v3.x and Multifamily New Construction v1.x Home Analysis.
  • DOE Zero Energy Ready Home Certification
  • Energy code compliance (IECC 1998 - 2018)
  • National Green Building Standard™ (NGBS) Compliance
  • LEED® for Homes compliance
  • Heating and cooling equipment sizing

REM/Rate™ operates in Windows® and has many unique features including extensive component libraries, automated energy efficiency improvement analysis, duct condition and leakage analysis, latent and sensible cooling analysis, lighting and appliance audit, and active and passive solar analysis.

HERS® Providers throughout the U.S. use REM/Rate™ Software. The Software has a User Defined Reference Home feature which enables the HERS® Provider to create other reference homes (local construction practice, local code) that can be compared to the rated home. It also has an Export Database feature that creates a database of inputs and outputs for statistical analysis, archiving ratings and custom report generation.

REM/Design

REM/Design™ is developed specifically with the needs of homebuilders, remodelers, energy consultants and designers in mind. REM/Design™ calculates heating, cooling, hot water, lights and appliance loads, consumption and costs for single and multi-family designs in over 600 North American cities. NORESCO continually upgrades REM/Design™ to become more applicable for existing homes. Look for future updates of new reporting, streamlined inputs and a web based application.

This Windows®-based software automatically analyzes the energy and economic performance of numerous energy design features including envelope insulation, air leakage control, duct leakage control, active and passive solar systems, heating and cooling equipment, mechanical ventilation and more. In addition to calculating energy performance, REM/Design™ helps size heating and cooling equipment, and automatically determines compliance with the International Energy Conservation Code for both the UA and performance compliance paths.

REM/Design™ helps you evaluate and promote the most cost-effective energy features for new home construction. The software analyzes the energy and economic performance of traditional and innovative design features, including active and passive solar systems, infiltration and duct leakage reduction packages, high-performance windows, efficient heating and cooling equipment, and panelized construction.

REM/Design™ identifies cost-effective energy improvements to existing homes. Using economic criteria that you specify, it automatically ranks energy efficiency improvements from the list of measures you've created. Once the treatments (energy efficiency improvements) and the rule base (i.e., if existing ceiling insulation is R-11, install R-19 to achieve R-30) have been created, they can be saved and used on future projects. The software also offers utility bill analysis, which facilitates calibration of the model.
